Dr Kurt Schlintner (1927-2020)

Founder of the Purkersdorf Nature Park

Dr Kurt Schlintner (1927-2020) was a municipal councillor and deputy mayor in Purkersdorf for 36 years from 1955 and was always committed to the development of the municipal forest as a nature adventure park. From 1970 to 1985 he was chairman of the "Verschönerungsverein", from 1971 chairman of the Wienerwald Tourism Association and from the beginning of 1992 deputy chairman of the Wienerwald Tourism Region.

Dr Schlintner persistently and successfully campaigned for the development of the municipal forest as a nature adventure park; from the very beginning he supported the construction of the nature trail proposed by town gardener Elsinger in 1968 and later achieved through his efforts that in 1975 the entire area of the municipal forest was recognised by the state of Lower Austria as the "Sandsteinwienerwald" nature park. Dr Schlintner was a successful and active chairman of the nature park from 1975 to 1999 - in other words for 24 years - and soon after it was founded, he initiated the construction of the game enclosures and the Rudolfswarte as well as the expansion of the petting zoo enclosure on the Kellerwiese.

From 1999, he was always closely associated with the Nature Park as Honorary Chairman and was a competent and reliable advisor to the Nature Park. Until shortly before his death on 16 September 2020, Kurt Schlintner regularly attended the meetings of the Nature Park Board and supported us with his advice. We are grateful that we were able to have Kurt Schlintner for the Nature Park for so long.
