Flood protection at the Nature Park Center (2022)

Adapted measures to prevent flooding

As sudden heavy rainfall is increasing due to climate change and is causing flooding at the playground, at the access road to the Wienerwaldhaus and at our forest education facilities, we have taken appropriate preventive measures.

Due to increasing heavy rainfall events in recent years (that are directly related to climate change) we have experienced increasingly often surface flooding in the nature park center area, which has sometimes flowed over the children's playground, the access road and has sometimes rendered our education facilities unusable facilities

In this project we have improved the situation through planting water-retaining hedges and re-activating a ravine that had existed in the past but had been blocked by erosion.

This project was subsidized by the Nature Conservation Administration (RU5) of the Provice of Lower Austria (NÖ).
