New deer enclosure (2022)

More room for shy animals

For many years, there has been a red deer enclosure in the nature park with animals that were found as fawns and raised by hand; they would hardly have survived in the wild.

To give these shy animals more space and more peace and quiet, we have built a new, almost twice as large deer enclosure above the wild boar enclosure, where the animals can shield themselves better from the sometimes aggressivly barking dogs of our visitors. We have installed and fenced in more than 100 acacia posts, a gate and suitable feeding stations.

The two deer moved into the new enclosure at the end of 2022. At the beginning of June 2023, we saw that the deer were happy in the new enclosure when a long-awaited offspring finally appeared. Unfortunately, the mother and fawn did not survive the birth, but it nevertheless confirms the importance of the new enclosure, which is closer to nature.

The old enclosure was dismantled and all non-forest materials were removed so that the area of the old enclosure would once again become a natural forest.

The project was realised with 50% funding from the Lower Austrian Landscape Fund and with sponsorship from the Purkersdorf-based company Rechberger Immobilien GmbH.
