Nature-oriented tourism development...
...to strengthen attractiveness for visitors
We want to offer attractive and well-maintained recreational facilities that correspond to the character of the landscape and thus enable our visitors to experience nature as well as rest and relaxation.
As one of 5 nature parks in the province of Lower Austria, Purkersdorf is taking part in a campaign organised by the Nature Parks Association to strengthen the nature tourism offer.
In autumn 2022, a consulting firm specialising in tourism analysed potential improvements, and since then, we have implemented these.
Improved routing system
With an improved routing system, we want to enable our visitors to enjoy a beautiful nature experience and increase the visibility of the protected area. This includes standardised signage at the nature park entrances, a uniform design for our information boards and new signposting.
New themed trails
Three new themed trails will be created on the existing network of paths. These trails are intended to better emphasise the uniqueness of Purkersdorf Nature Park and highlight our core themes of "Beech & Trees & Soil" - "Water & Climate" and "Schöffel & Forest Management".
We have prepared a QR code system for information stations along all new 3 trails, which our visitors can use to access information about local special features at points of interest. We have commissioned professional texting for this in 2023.
A new nature experience map
The 3 new trails result in a restructuring of our nature tourism offering, which we have summarised in a "Nature Experience Map". This map contains all trails, adventure stations and points of interest and will replace our previous hiking map from 2024; it not only refers to the nature park area proper, but also to the town centre, the Feihlerhöhe orchard meadow and the built-up area East up to the important architectural landmark “Sanatorium Purkersdorf”. This will bring the town's infrastructure and the local gastronomy closer to our visitors than before.
The project is being realised with the support of the Lower Austrian Nature Park Association (VNN) and the Province of Lower Austria.
